I heard from a friend of mine that owns an Element that this model will be back for the 2019 model year. This is the first I’ve heard about this and it seems like great news to me. I always wanted one but they were discontinued before I was ready to buy. I bought a Mazda5 6MT instead and couldn’t be happier.
Now, if they can only bring back the original Scion xB and the Mazda5...

yeah - some rumblings about a 2021 model. Drop in the turbo out of the CRV and fix the driver ego and it could be a solid niche market vehicle.

Yeah... no. It’s October and there’s been zero talk, so it ain’t gonna happen for 2019.

2019 Honda's have already hit the lot so I'm going to say it's not happening.

Yeah, the first few articles I read were from 2017 talking about a 2019 introduction, but now I’m seeing articles in late 2018 talking about it being a 2021 model.
Since I’m still waiting for modern day replacement for the VW bus as has been promised for what seems like decades, I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for this thing to hit the showrooms.

We’re already in the 2019 model year right now, and if it was coming for 2020, we’d already know about it. At the very least, it would have been shown in production form to Honda dealers, and there would be no reason not to show it to the press and general public as well.

I know it’s too late for 2019 and probably 2020 as well, so I figure that if there’s any truth to this rumor it would be a 2021 model at the absolute earliest.

It could happen, the Element is sorta technically a crossover (as far as the EPA is concerned), and that and pickup trucks are all anyone’s interested in building now. It definitely has a way better chance than a new Thunderbird or Riviera .
I had a coworker that used to get excited every year about the Bronco supposedly coming back, from like 2005 onward. Well, its happening now.

You know, as much as I rail against SUVs and crossovers, I’m starting to see the appeal. I personally like minivans, but small minivans like my Mazda5 are getting almost impossible to find new and so I’ll probably never find a suitable replacement should I need another car . Last month I borrowed my dad’s Volt for a few days, and although I like the car overall, for the first few days I found myself smacking my head whilst getting in and out , wishing it was a bit higher in profile and easier to get in and out of like my van.

I’m pretty sure the 2013 Civic wasn’t revealed until November 2012 or something bizarre like that. I still remember in c.2012, a guy with a Ridgeline told me that Honda was coming out with a new one soon. He was right, but off by a few years.

The original xB was a shoddily constructed horribly riding piece of junk that has been rightfully relegated to history in my opinion. One of the most dreadful cars I’ve ever driven. I wanted to like it because I love the box on wheels idea until I test drove one. I do wish there was a follow up to the Mazda5. I have a couple friends who have them and they are great vans. I know they wouldn’t sell many but it was a nice uinique option. I guess the Transit Connect kind of fills the niche but it doesn’t really have any soul like the Mazda does.

One day the “model year” will be 5 years ahead of the actual year. It’s like this arm’s race to announce future cars first

It traditionally started in the fall, but some manufacturers have gotten ridiculous, seemingly skipping ahead two years at times.

I haven’t actually driven an early xB, but I have ridden in several owned by friends and found them to be spacious and practical, but slow and cheap. As long as you keep your expectations low they’re not that bad.
The Mazda5 though? I love mine, especially since I have the 6MT. I plan on keeping this thing forever and hope that nothing ever happens to it. For a van it drives remarkably well and is fun to toss around, whereas most other ‘mini’ vans are soulless appliances that have no concept of what fun to drive means. Although I’ve owned lots of expensive German machinery in the past , when I was poor a decade ago I drove a 1999 Ford Windstar that I bought for $1 , and even at that price I think I overpaid...

Windstars were so bad. I had a ‘95. Too many problems to list and I didn’t even have some of the ones I’ve heard are common. I wouldn’t even take another one for free.

Scion/Toyota that good huh?

Most Toyotas of that era - even the cheap ones - were well constructed. Sure maybe a little plasticy and using old technology but solid. The xB was an exception.

I think a fair amount of that is because they’re really meant to be one step up from a tallboy kei.
